Kristína Bukovčáková was born in Trnava and grew up in Prievidza, Slovakia. She studied at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica (2011-2015) at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the Open Studio of Painting with professor Ján Kudlička and Rastislav Podoba. In 2013, she completed a study internship at the Academy of Arts in Krakow in the studio of professor Andrzej Bednarczyk. In the years 2015-2018, she studied at the University of Applied Arts in Prague (UMPRUM) at the Department of Liberal Arts in the Studio of Intermedial Confrontation with professor Jiří David and Milan Salák. She was awarded the prestigious painting prize of the VÚB Foundation in 2015 (2nd place) and in 2016 (1st place). She lives and works in Matúškovo.

Kristína Bukovčáková focuses in her artworks on what interests her the most. She visually interprets and shares the hidden aspects of plant life. She often depicts fruits, insects, or soil structures and layers on her canvases. However, she does not glorify the world of plants, her approach has surrealistic rather than romantic roots. In his paintings, she presents a system of symbols of the accelerated present, the Internet, and specialized books and atlases on growing fruits and vegetables, which together create one homogeneous whole. She describes her work as a cluster of environmental topics, which have their own sub-themes and thus create a coherent whole. The society’s lack of interest in ecology is among the driving forces of her creative process.
